Timetable Information for Masters Courses for Semester 2 2007

To find out when your course will take place do the following

  1. Look at the table below.

The ANU timetable includes most COMP6/8xxx series courses! If the timetable links below don't work, or if the course of interest is not listed below, try searching the time table browser for the course. If your course is `serviced with' an another course, you could also try searching for that.

MICT courses (under MCOMP Schedule 1) are run externally to DCS and do not seem to have course web pages at this time. See below for timetable links and details on how to get permission. Contact the lecturer or go to the first lecture to find out more details on the course.

COMP6000 and COMP8000 - level project courses do not normally have a timetable entry (unless included in the table below). Generally, the first thing to do is to make contract with the relevant project co-ordinator, which should be as early as possible, at latest week 1. See the Masters project pages for more details.

  2. See also the course web page (see the links below) for further information (e.g. whether lectures start from week 1 and for times of tutorials/laboratories). Note that you will not be able to access any pages on WebCT until your enrolment has been processed.

  3. Each course will have its own policy on how to register for a tutorial/laboratory group. Some will require you to register on-line via the StReAMS system. Click on this link and log in using your uni id and PAC code. Provided you have completed your enrolment 2 working days before, you should see a list of CS courses you have enrolled in. Registrations are normally enabled between weeks 0 and 2; if it says `registrations closed' in this period, it probably means you do not register using StReAMS. Otherwise, register as early as possible! (even before your first lecture - first come, best dressed!). For more information on StReAMS, see the CSIT Undergraduate Student System Documentation page.

  4. COMP8000-level courses may be used as MIT Group C options. However, permission may be required from the course lecturer.

Gaining Permission for the MICT courses in MCOMP Schedule 1:

The following table gives links to the timetable, and lecturer email contact for these courses:

COMP8620 Advanced Topics in Artificial Intelligence alban.grastien[at]anu.edu.au
COMP8650 Advanced Topics in Statistical Machine Learning svn.vishwanathan[at]nicta.com.au

The requirement for admission is having a Bachelor degree with Honours in a computing discipline with at least an H2A mark (75% average), or equivalent. The procedure for applying for special permission for one of these courses is as follows:

  1. contact the course lecturer by email, stating your interest in being granted permission, and making a case that you think you meet the above requirement (i.e. if you don't have a CS H1 or H2A degree, whether your degree possibly combined with work experience should be regarded as `equivalent'). Request they reply stating whether they support your enrolment, and request they CC the reply to the MICT Convenor Jochen.Trumpf[at]anu.edu.au and the MCOMP Convenor Peter.Strazdins[at]cs.anu.edu.au. I recommend that you offer to show any supporting materials (e.g. transcript, CV, sample of relevant previous work) at the week 1 lecture.
  2. if the lecturer is unclear on whether you meet the requirement, you may need to see the MCOMP Convenor to have this looked into more deeply (bringing the supporting materials).
  3. the final decision is then made by the MICT Convenor, who will notify you by email. If approved, you should bring a printout of this email to the DCS Office and request a permission code.
